Getting that Mojo back

Afternoon Peeps,

So after a long time of not writing a blog post I have decided to pick it up again.

I am also coming out of a hobby low where I was not doing any hobby at all. Now I’m pleased to say that I have my hobby mojo back. So today I wanted to write about hobby lows. Cause hey we all have them!

So looking back on to the reason why I had the low I think it occurred when I had played one of my most fun games I have played. For my birthday last November I wrote a narrative for a big 3k points each side. It was meant to be 2 a side but one person forgot so it ended 2 vs 1. I had such a good time but it lasted very long finishing at around 0100. I was totally drained after that battle and a few days went past afterwards where I had not done any hobby at all. I even wasn’t going to the club. I tried painting but couldn’t get into it and so I stopped. I still was active on the clubs facebook page I just wasn’t doing any hobbying.  I went to the Spartans Christmas party and again this was great fun and I had an awesome battle with our Chairman Mark which I got a pasting! I still wasn’t quite ready for full on hobbying. However I did pick up a paintbrush and start to paint a tactical squad. What I would normally do is paint until either a set time or certain stage. What I did this time was when I started to lose interest I would stop no matter what stage I was at. This helped as although largely I was only painting for around 30-45 minutes at a time I never really lost interest in it.

What really dragged me back to enjoy hobbying was the announcement of The Independent Characters hobby progress challenge which Loppy and Adán are hosting and I have all these orks that need painting up and I will have a set goal to aim for. So I got my Orks out and looked at what needed painting. For February’s commitment I am painting up a unit of Lootas.

Shortly after IC hobby challenge was announced Steve from the Spartans announced a Badab campaign. Well I had to get in on that, so my Dark Angels came out of their box to enforce the Emperors justice on the secessionist’s forces. We have just finished phase one of the campaign and it was brilliant. The special mission is brilliant. To sum it up the Loyalist forces were surrounded by the Secessionist force. It was 2k points each side. Hopefully there will be a post specifically about this campaign coming up.

So these are the reasons I was brought out of my hobby low and although I have not got a lot of time to dedicate to the hobby due to work and family commitments I am now wanting to do it. It will be very different for others. Speaking to just members of my club who all said at one time or another they went through a bit of a hobby low and they all came back for different reasons. So if your currently going through one, don’t worry about. There is no point forcing yourself to do something that you’re not enjoying. You will find that your mojo will come back and then the hobby will be doing what it is supposed to be doing making you happy. There is no point in doing a hobby if you are not enjoying it.

Catch up with you all soon

Tim
